Pharmacological properties
ATC vet classification code: QMO1A Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic veterinary drugs. QMO1AE03 Ketoprofen. Ketoprofen — is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug of the group of carboxylic acids, derivatives of propionic acid, which has analgesic and antipyretic properties. The mechanism of action of the drug, like other representatives of the group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, consists in inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase, which ensures the transformation of arachidonic acid into prostaglandins. Ketoprofen inhibits the activity of bradykinin, which excites pain nerve endings and thereby provokes pain and contributes to the stabilization of lysosomal membranes, which prevents the release of lysosomal enzymes and prevents tissue destruction. When the medicinal product is administered intramuscularly, the maximum plasma concentration of ketoprofen is noted after 30 minutes. The bioavailability of ketoprofen varies from 80% to 100% depending on the animal species. Ketoprofen is excreted from the body mainly through the kidneys.
